A scan chosen for a reason

Let the examination guide the choice

A collision does not automatically mean you need an MRI. Your clinician considers how the collision happened, your symptoms, and the examination findings. The useful question is whether another image would help guide your care.

Prepare for your appointment

If enclosed spaces or lying still worry you, tell the team before the appointment. Ask how to send earlier images and reports to the imaging facility.

Review the report with your symptoms

Bring the report to your follow-up visit. Ask which findings fit your symptoms, what remains uncertain, and what the next step should be. A report alone does not settle every question about pain.

A little clarity before your first call

Questions before you begin

How long after a car accident should I get imaging?
The timing depends on your symptoms and examination findings. Emergency danger signs need immediate assessment. For other concerns, your clinician decides whether imaging is needed and which study would help. Ask when the test should happen, what to do while waiting, and which changes should prompt urgent care.
